CONYERS — Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning has announced that Teresa Dixon of Childcare Network No. 231 on Flat Shoals Road in Conyers is one of six finalists for Georgia’s Pre-K Program 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year. Dixon received a surprise visit from DECAL Commissioner Amy M. Jacobs and CALi, the official mascot for the state agency.

“Now in its 26th year, Georgia’s Pre-K Program is nationally recognized as an exemplary early childhood education program for four-year old’s that significantly impacts school readiness skills in language, literacy, and math and prepares students for kindergarten,” said Jacobs. “The program’s success can be attributed directly to the outstanding Pre-K teachers and assistants who implement this program daily. This is a small way for us to recognize their efforts.”

Each finalist receives $500 from the Georgia Foundation for Early Care + Learning. In September, DECAL will select a winner from a local public-school system and a winner from a private child care center.
