CONYERS — The Conyers Garden Club, in partnership with the Nancy Guinn Memorial Library, will welcome Rockdale County Cooperative Extension Agent James T. Murphy to speak at the 2019 National Garden Week Program on June 4. Murphy will talk about “Bugs in your Backyard.”

Murphy was born and raised in South Carolina, and received his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Clemson University. He went on to earn a Master of Science Degree from the University of Georgia in Entomology. He has worked in lab and field settings for several years, and is passionate about insects, wildlife, and natural resources.

In his free time he enjoys riding his bike, fishing, and tending his herb garden. He currently serves as the Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent for UGA Cooperative Extension in Rockdale County.

In addition to Murphy’s talk, children who attend the program will participate in activities which may include coloring and/or word searches and other hands-on activities. The library staff will offer summer program reward tickets/tokens to children who attend the program. Brown bag refreshments will also be provided for the children participating.

The program will take place at the Nancy Quinn Memorial Library, 864 Green St. SW in Conyers from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 4. The public is invited to attend. Please contact Conyers Garden Club President Gale D. Thomas at thomas1954@bellsouth.net for additional details.
