CONYERS - The Conyers Garden Club (CGC) is pleased to invite the public to the club’s February meeting at the Conyers Presbyterian Church on February 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. The club’s program for this meeting is a presentation by Dr. Sandy Reed, noted hydrangea expert and plant researcher.
Dr. Reed received her B.S degree in Agronomy and her Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from the University of Kentucky. Employed as a Research Geneticist for the US National Arboretum at their worksite in McMinnville, Tennessee, she developed several new cultivars of hydrangeas, including ‘Ruby Slippers’ and ‘Munchkin’ oakleaf hydrangea. Dr. Reed retired in 2011 and moved to Atlanta to be near family. She joined Shenandoah Rose Garden Club in 2013. Dr. Reed currently serves and the 2nd VP for Shenandoah Rose Garden Club; Recording Secretary for DeKalb Federation and Newsletter Editor for the Redbud District of Garden Club of Georgia.
Dr. Reed will share her knowledge of hydrangeas with the CGC members and guests and discuss her work in the development of new cultivars. Her presentation will give club members a different insight into the history of one of the South’s favorite shrubs.
