Mildred Cheatham celebrates 100th birthday on Nov. 14

Mildred Davis Cheatham, affectionately known as “Mother Cheatham” by her fellow members at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers, will celebrate 100 years of life and service on Nov. 14. Born Nov. 14, 1918 in Jamesville, NC, Cheatham dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized in the Roanoke River at the age of 14 in 1932 at the Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Jamesville. As a child she attended Sunday school every Sunday, and read poems for church programs. In later years, she sang in the choir and led many songs. She also served as secretary for the Sunday school. During WWII, Cheatham worked in the well known Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC. Cheatham enjoyed cooking and was cooking until 2014, age 96. Springfield Baptist Church will have a birthday fellowship/lunch for Mother Cheatham on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 12:30 p.m. in the SBC Worship Center’s atrium. (Special Photo)
