NEWBORN — A driver from East Dublin was trapped in his truck for more than an hour after heavy rainfall and winds caused trees and power lines to crash on top of his truck late Tuesday.

The driver said he had stopped his rental truck on Ga. Highway 142 East near Hays Pond Road about 4:45 p.m. to try to turn around in a driveway. While he was waiting to turn, he said the weather got worse and several trees and power lines fell on his vehicle, trapping him in the cab of the truck.

Emergency workers arrived on the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m. and after making sure the power lines were not live, were able to extricate the driver from his vehicle. Highway 142 was shut down for almost three hours while the trees and truck were removed.

The driver sustained injuries to his arm. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta where he underwent several surgeries, according to a family member.
