Georgia's total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has surpassed 7,000 and the Centers for Disease Control numbers indicate the state is among those with the highest number of confirmed cases.

Data from the Georgia Department of Public Health indicated there are 7,314 confirmed cases of the virus in Georgia. April 3 data from the CDC showed that Georgia is one of 11 states in the U.S. with more than 5,000 confirmed cases and has shown evidence of widespread community transmission across several geographical areas.

The Georgia DPH has also linked 229 deaths due to complications from the virus, meaning the virus has killed 3.13% of people confirmed to have had the disease in Georgia.

Data shows that 1,332 people confirmed to have the disease in Georgia have been hospitalized, making up 18.12% of the confirmed cases in the state.

The state has not released numbers that show how many people who had COVID-19 have recovered from the disease.

Made with Flourish

State health labs have conducted 2,497 tests while commercial labs have conducted 28,777 tests. Commercial labs have seen 23.4% of tests come back positive, while 17.9% of state tests have been positive.

The state has not released county-by-county figures on the number of tests administered in specific communities.

People in the 18-59 age group make up the majority of cases, 60% in all, followed by people ages 60 and up (35%) and newborns to 17-year-olds (1%). The ages were unknown in 4% of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Females make up 53% of cases where the gender is known while males make up another 46%. The gender is unknown in the remaining 1% of cases.

Currently, the four most-populated counties in Georgia are among those with the most confirmed cases of COVID-19. Fulton County, with more than 1 million residents estimated in 2019, has the highest number of cases — 1,027 with 28 deaths. Dougherty County, which had an estimated population of less than 88,000, has 716 confirmed cases and 31 deaths. It is followed by DeKalb County (579 cases, 10 deaths), Cobb County (515 cases, 25 deaths) and Gwinnett County (443 cases, 10 deaths).

The county of residence is unknown in 320 cases and 5 deaths.
