City of Conyers officials past and present held a groundbreaking ceremony on O'Kelley Street Thursday morning for the new city hall. City voters approved a $13 million bond referendum for the new city hall last year. Construction is expected to begin in August and could be completed in the early fall of 2020.
City Manager Tony Lucas thanked his staff for all the work they did with the bond referendum last year and for working with the architect, builder and bond counsel.
Mayor Vince Evans said the new city hall will be a catalyst for revitalizing the area around O'Kelley Street as a complement to Olde Town Conyers.
Former Mayor Randy Mills called the new city hall a "game changer" and the biggest thing to happen to Conyers since the horse park was built.
