Georgia Ophthalmologists, a full-service eye care group, announced the opening of an 8,000-square-foot state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center housed in its existing patient care facility at 4159 Mill St. in Covington. It is expected to be fully operational by Nov. 10. The only one of its kind east of Atlanta, the new center is equipped to accommodate a range of ocular surgeries including cataract, glaucoma and oculoplastic procedures.

“Our new surgery center allows us to provide the best possible outcomes for patients needing eye surgery,” said Dr. Jose Bigles-Geigel, founder of Georgia Ophthalmologists stated. “For example, our center is equipped with the latest technology such as the CATALYS laser system, which makes laser cataract surgery possible. This adds comfort and leads to faster recovery after surgery. There are only a few of these systems in the entire state.”

Bigles-Geigel has performed thousands of ocular procedures during his 13 years in practice.

With a growing community, Covington’s mayor, Ronnie Johnston, sees the new surgery center coming at an opportune time. “This new surgery center is certainly impressive and representative of the ever-expanding quality medical capabilities we offer citizens of Covington and the surrounding counties,” Johnston said.

In addition to surgery, the range of services offered by the Covington and Jackson locations includes routine eye exams, glasses and contact lenses. Services are provided by a medical staff of more than 30, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, nurses and licensed opticians.
