The Citizen Polls this week were open lines. Here are the combined poll responses from Rockdale and Newton.

“What does ‘Clean and Beautiful’ do? Could they maybe organize either the prisoners or a volunteer group to clean up (Rockdale County)? It’s disgusting with trash everywhere. Gees Mill has at least six or seven large plastic bags just tossed out on the side of the road, waiting for the county to mow over them, making the ugly trash spread over an even larger area. It’s not only Gees Mill, just pick any road.”

“Here’s a message I’d like to see leaders start preaching to youth: stop doing things that get you into trouble with the law to begin with! Don’t trespass on other people’s property, don’t steal, don’t physically or verbally assault others, don’t vandalize, don’t break rules of the road, don’t loiter, don’t flash guns and knives around, don’t dress and act like you already have been to jail. Don’t break laws, and then you won’t need a criminal attorney to tell you what your rights are when the police show up. I’m tired of the ‘blame’ being put on police for things that got started by unlawful behavior. I’m tired of people talking like police are ‘out to get’ certain populations. I’m tired of people marching up and down the street talking trash about what they gonna do to the police if they don’t get their way. It’s time for this community and others to start putting the blame on criminals for creating this environment. Put the blame where it belongs, on the music and movies and shows that glorify criminal lifestyles. Put the blame where it belongs, on people who break the law, and on people who help them get away with it by not reporting crime or lying to police or refusing to cooperate with police or through purchasing stolen or illegal merchandise.”

“I applaud Atlanta Mayor Kaseem Reed, Atlanta Midtown and Buckhead residents for getting together to address the increasing amount and expansion of crime in their areas. That is exactly what the governing leadership in Rockdale and neighboring counties should be doing. Getting together with residents, homeowners, business owners, homeowner and neighborhood associations to create a proactive plan to address public safety. Instead our leadership sits silent, putting energy into making cases for adding security cameras for new trails, purchasing new vehicles etc. … County leadership needs to rethink its priorities. This community will wither and suffer economically if public safety doesn’t improve. With that said, our RCSO, CPD and GSP do an outstanding job from what I read. It is the proactive leadership that is suffering. In my opinion.”

“I hope that everybody will vote for the SPLOST referendum in May and also the HOST, and I hope that the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and the city police will gather up all the boys and girls and tell them to quit this stealing and home invasions and robbing and raping here in Rockdale County and the city of Conyers… I hope everybody will have a great day and I hope everybody will go to the church of your denomination. … ”
