CONYERS — After an elderly woman was carjacked at gunpoint on Peek Street the evening of July 8, the Conyers Police Department is asking if anyone saw a man matching the description of the suspect in the West Avenue, Olde Town, Irwin Bridge Road or Milstead Road area.

The suspect is described as being young, black and male with a slim build and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a front pocket, and gray sweat pants with pockets.

Officers were dispatched to a carjacking call about 5:37 p.m. Monday. While en route, dispatch advised that a black man had stolen a Honda Accord and was last seen driving west on Institute Street.

When officers arrived, the 78-year-old woman said she was taking a break from where she worked on Peek Street and was sitting on her front passenger seat with the door open and smoking a cigarette.

The victim said the suspect came up to the passenger side of the car, pointed a handgun at her, and told her to get out of the car and onto the ground. She did so and the suspect got into the driver’s side, started the car and left. The woman was not injured in the incident, and ran inside the business to call 911.

A Be On The Lookout was issued for the Accord and the suspect. About 48 minutes later, a Conyers officer on patrol spotted the abandoned vehicle in front of the Meadow Crossing apartment complex on Millcrest Walk off Irwin Bridge Road. It was impounded and towed to the Conyers Police Department for processing.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Conyers Police Department at 770-483-6600.
