CONYERS - After two firms made presentations to Rockdale County Public Schools cabinet members, superintendent and other team members, a finalist was selected to begin construction on the new J.H. House Elementary facility.
Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart and Stewart Architects Inc. was given a score based off an extensive 17-item rubric including plan, scope of work, design and concept.
SRS&S Architects has previously done work in the RCPS district, including Charles Evans Stadium at Heritage High in 2001, C.J. Hicks in 2009 and most recently Pine Street Elementary that finished construction in July.
“This team really wanted to have a unique design for J.H. House, not just a repeat of Pine Street,” said Phil Budensiek, chief officer of operational services.
An 87-acre tract has been purchased for the new J.H. House campus, located off Loganville Highway and Zingara Road.
Since construction of the new Pine Street, the current J.H. House campus is now considered the oldest in the district.
The new construction will be funded with ESPLOST IV funds, which were approved by voters in 2013.
