COVINGTON - Traffic on a section of Ga. Highway 142 — both northbound and southbound — will shift to new lanes Thursday to allow for continued construction. The lane shifts will take place from Hazelbrand Road ending at the northern project limits past Alcovy Road.
The lane shifts are expected to begin in the morning, weather permitting. Motorists should expect delays during the cross-over process.
The widening of Ga. Highway 142 is a $14.1 million project that includes 1.6 miles of widening and reconstruction for additional lanes beginning at Interstate 20 and extending to Alcovy Road. The bridge over the CSX railroad is also being replaced.
Based on weather and utility relocation delays, Georgia DOT expects the project to be completed by March 2020.
