CONYERS - Six males ages 17-19, along with a 16-year-old female juvenile, all members of rival gangs, are facing fighting and gang charges after an alleged gun fight on a residential street.
The incident occurred about 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 17. Conyers Police officers responded to a residence on Pinedale Circle in reference to a fight in progress.
While en route, the officers were advised by dispatch that a large group of people was shooting guns at each other. When they arrived, the group had dispersed, and the officers spoke with the complainant and four other witnesses.
According to Sgt. Kim Lucas, no one was arrested at the time of the incident, but the majority of the suspects were identified the following day and arrested when they returned to the incident site. Two more were arrested a few days later.
Arrested and charged as adults with violation of the Street Gang Terrorism Act and affray (fighting) were Dwight Lamar Henderson Jr., 18, Tyshawn Antonio Pitts, 17, Miles Julian Griggs, 19, Tahmir Foendoe, 18, Steve Morris, 19, and Kaweem Odal Thomas Jr., 17. Thomas is also facing a probation violation. All are from Conyers.
The 16-year-old female, also from Conyers, has been charged as a juvenile with violation of the Street Gang Terrorism Act, affray, possession of a firearm by a person under the age 18, and criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark (the serial number of the firearm was filed off).
Sgt. Lucas said the seven arrested are of either the “Grape Street Crips” or the “Plug Family for Life” street gangs. A eighth suspect remains at large at this time. The investigation is continuing.
