“So Schulz, Henderson and Sims, the rest of us who work for the county are second class, unworthy of a pay raise and not appreciated? We get the message loud and clear. All we need to do in the future is show up like a mob at the commission meeting, demand more money and sit back and watch the money flow? We get it. Live and learn.”

“Thank you Commissioners Sims, Schulz and Henderson for dividing county employees into the worthy and unworthy groups. I work in the unworthy group and my work does not rate a nice pay raise. You shot morale in the backside when you did what you did, and I hope you it makes you happy. None of us unworthies are.”

“How about something positive for a change? On Tuesday, I went to a fast food place in Decatur for lunch. I accidentally left my cell phone on the table and got all the way back to my office before I missed it. I knew it was gone but tried to call the Popeye’s Restaurant at Belvedere anyway but all I got was a fax tone. With little chance of getting the phone back, I drove back to the restaurant and asked about it. A young African American teenaged worker asked what color it was so I told him, what make, which I told him, and he reached under the counter and gave it back to me. I was shocked it was still there, but his honesty and truthfulness have impressed me greatly. I gave him $20 as a reward and told him honesty and hard work do pay. Thank you, young man, and thank you Popeye’s for hiring him.”

“I work for Newton County, and my job is not worth a pay raise to three commissioners. What gives them the right to make that judgment, some jobs are important enough for more pay and some aren’t? I have bills too, and I also vote.”

“This is actually happening! After removing my two daughters from the mess at Alcovy High School my grandson now attends Livingston Elementary. They have hired an excellent principal in Dr. Carter. He visits each classroom daily and knows most students by name. He genuinely seems to enjoy his job and the children. What a blessing he is to Newton County School System and to my grandson …. Thank you, Dr. Patrick Carter. Ms. B. & Ms. Chasse have made pre-k a wonderful experience. Keep up the good work! You are appreciated!”

“Of the approximate 120 employees that Baxter has relocated, less than 10 have moved to Newton County. Between the problems with the BOC, BOE and Tommy Craig, I am amazed that we could find these 10 suckers. They must not have children.”

“I love Shannon Black. Her critics rail and she goes right on ticking!”

——

“I am not surprised the GPC Campus Cafe got a low health score. The place is just nasty!”

——

“I love the Newton Poll! My favorite read of each week.”

——

“Who is Large Man?”

——

“Our school board sounds so uneducated. Do they hear how they sound? Grammar is awful. Who started this ‘on today’ and ‘on tomorrow’ crap? That is not correct grammar. I wrote this on yesterday. See how bad that sounds?”

——

“Wow our BOC chair sounds really gullible. We are ‘blessed’ to have a million dollar attorney?”

——

“It is obvious that we should return the previous form of government. Much of the current dysfunction can be traced to the current form. At the work session everyone spoke in favor of it, so I don’t understand why this decision is so difficult. I hope the committee will present this as the most viable option.”
