This week’s Newton Citizen Poll question was: “What retail business would you most like to see come to Newton County?”

——

“Definitely a movie theater. Also a Super Target, Chipotle, and a Joe’s Crab Shack. There is no reason for me to have to leave Newton County for my shopping. And finally, the owners of these shopping centers need to show some pride in their property. Every shopping center in Covington needs remodeling and new landscaping. Just look how tacky the Ross shopping center is. Ross remodeled their part of the strip mall and it is very nice while the rest of it looks fresh out of 1990.”

——

“This is pretty simple. People who are living in a municipality like being able to easily access basic needs and comforts. Many of us drive to Conyers, Atlanta and even Athens to buy things (or experiences) that we would much rather get right here in Newton County. (I don’t want to be negative, but I am so sorry that I moved here … I had no idea that 20 years down the road there would still be a problem with this.) Sorry. Here is my list: a Starbucks, a Trader Joe’s or Sprouts, a nice (not Ingles) grocery store on the south end of the county, a Target, and a year-round pool that is at least 25 yards with six to eight lap lanes. A water park would also be nice, along with a movie theatre and an Indian restaurant. I am very happy with the Square (and the sponsored activities), the police and fire/paramedic protection services, the trails and the neighborhood recycling centers.”

“I think it would be nice if we had more independent, upscale dining options — not another chain.”

——

“None. We are fine with what we’ve got around Covington/Conyers.”

——

“I can only laugh at this poll question as the BOC is getting ready to make a Newton County record 21 percent tax increase. Do you really think quality business will come to a tax increasing county like Newton?”
