“How can someone with a home the county says is worth $170,000, nice neighborhood, more than 4-acre lot pay less than $70 in property taxes and someone who lives in a starter home community that the county says the home is worth a little over $69,000 pay over $700 in property taxes?… ”

“So my supposedly ‘conservative’ BOC member John Douglas doesn’t want to save $200,000 per year by hiring the same lawyer directly rather than pay Tommy Craig $450,000 for the same services. This is a no-downside-deal …. John, you have lost my vote; you and Keith have to go.”

“The city was threatened with a lawsuit to approve a cell tower on Old Monticello Street some time back. Well, the tower has been up for several months now but is pretty much a useless eyesore because it doesn’t have any antenna on it, which means it’s not operational. Can anyone at the Citizen find out why the people who threatened the lawsuit have yet to activate this tower after all the hassle they caused the city?”

“To the person complaining about the First Lady, do you really think she cares what you eat? And to all the complainers about GPC, if you don’t like it, find another school. No one is forcing you to go there.”

“Any person that claims other people’s children as their own grandchildren is a sick puppy.”

“The Newton County Board of Commissioners has done something right. They appointed citizen committees to address form of government issues, purchasing policies and the solid waste crisis, and they appointed some impressive citizen members to the committees. I attend all the meetings. These participating citizens are working very diligently and with no agendas to craft substantive recommendations to the issues at hand. Let us hope the board will treat the recommendations with the respect they deserve. Let us hope the county attorney will not gut them.”

“What have surrounding counties paid their county attorney for the first nine months of this fiscal year? This information was collected by open records requests to the below counties:

Newton County — $867,531.37

Rockdale County — $267,602.25

Walton County — $205,124.60

Morgan County — $50,148.00

Henry County — $ 256,634.73

Our three RINOs, Douglas, Ellis and Maddox, think we should give Craig $800,000 next year, or three times what surrounding counties pay. We need a BOC that works for the taxpayer, not Tommy Craig.”

“I think it is funny how Miss Black gets under people’s skin. Some people are glued to these polls during the workday trying to make sense out of what is going on here. This is absolutely hysterical, an excellent advertising for those who advertise with the Newton Citizen paper. I know people who actually read these polls out loud during the workday on the company dime and talk with their co-workers about who is who and who is posting what and who was saying and thinking what. It is absolutely hysterical … Keep up the good work and keep them guessing. They are trying to figure you out and coming up with wildly funny scenarios.”

“I am appalled at the grammar of our school board. Many of the school board members sound so uneducated. Newton citizens please do better next year when two of these seats are up.”

“Come on, Citizen, why do you continue to give the person that rants about large girl, the bearded lady and the bad food at the college that she ‘formerly’ attended a forum? She comes across as disturbed and has even been in court and the public eye herself in the past admitting to writing comments under multiple pseudonyms. Am I the only one who is tired of her innuendos and self-gratifying remarks going so far as to feel that she has ‘fans?’ She goes so far as to ‘publish’ in the Rockdale Poll as well. I could say more but am not interested in badgering this lady… Enough is enough, madam, try writing a book to see just how popular you are.”
