COVINGTON — The Newton County School System recently congratulated the valedictorians and salutatorians of 2019.

Eastside High School

Valedictorian: Katlyn Williams. She plans to attend the University of Georgia or Emory University to pursue a degree in chemistry.

Salutatorian: Lillian Fowler. She plans to attend Georgia College and State University in the fall to attain her degree in nursing.

Newton High School

Valedictorian: Joy Sharp. She plans to attend Agnes Scott College to pursue her degree in political science.

Salutatorian: Jordyn Greenwood. Greenwood plans to attend Georgia State University to study public health.

Alcovy High School

Valedictorian: Taylor Thomas. Thomas is undecided on the school as well as the subject she wishes to pursue.

Salutatorian: Liana Poole. She plans to attend Georgia Tech to study chemistry and biomolecular engineering.

Alcovy’s Class of 2019 will have its commencement ceremony Friday, May 24, at Springfield Baptist Church at 7 p.m.

Newton will follow on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. and Eastside at 2 p.m.

Covington native and proud Valdosta State alumna, Hunter has previously worked with The Covington News and Valdosta Daily Times. She started working for Rockdale/Newton Citizen in June 2018.
