Thief steals new bike, leaves old one behind

COVINGTON - The Covington Police Department is investigating the theft of a girl’s new bicycle from her home. The thief left an old bicycle behind.

According to an incident report, an officer responded to a home on Wheat Street on Oct. 5 in reference to the theft. The mother said sometime between 1:15-1:30 p.m., someone stole her daughter’s new bicycle, which had been left beside the house, and left an older bike in their driveway.

The stolen bicycle was described as a Genesis Spy girl’s 20-inch bike with a black frame and pink front forks and handle bars, with white tires.

The bike left behind was a 20-inch boy’s bike with damaged handle bars.

About 90 minutes after taking the complaint, the officer reported seeing a teenage black male approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and about 140 pounds, wearing a red shirt, riding a girl’s bike with pink on it on Wheat Street toward Ga. Highway 142. By the time the officer turned around to check on it, the cyclist had disappeared.
