“Recently some ladies from the Rockdale Senior Center were selling cakes and cookies on the front porch of the county commissioners office to raise funds for the senior center. On weekends many seniors give of their time and effort working around the Senior Center. At the same time all this work is going on to help the Senior Center, our county commissioner Richard Oden is riding around politicking and showing off in his new tax-paid $46,000 fancy automobile. The county commissioner also uses his new fancy auto to come over the Senior Center and politic. Is this what Rockdale wants?”

“RCPS, maybe now you will do something about the students in your school system! The school that had the shooting has a gang problem that is not being dealt with effectively. Time to make changes.”

“Parking is not the only issue with operating a bed and breakfast in a mostly residential area. There is also water use and waste. There might be four rooms but there could be potentially four guests to a room — how does that translate to the sewerage system? Houses in residential areas were not designed for long time, large-scale operations. We’ve already got de facto B&Bs around Rockdale, where 10 or more people are sharing what should be a four-person at most house. I say ‘no’ to allowing this to happen. If this couple gets a permit, how many more will petition for businesses in their neighborhoods? And that will impact everyone in a negative way.”

“Roll back the millage rate in Rockdale? I won’t hold my breath. I wish I could go back to those voters decades ago who gave this school system the power to raise the rates far above what other counties can do. I would shake some sense in them.”

“I am a teacher and just read the article regarding the budget. They said there would be a 3 percent raise. Does that mean we will get our step increases or not? They suspended step increases several years ago and gave us furlough days due to low budget. They stopped the furlough days, but I was wondering when the step increases based on the number of years we have worked would be restored.”

“How bad is Salem High School going to have to get before the school board steps in.”

“It’s about time we started hearing from the merchants about the problems Hollywood is causing. I was saying it for years before in the comments section and got shouted down with cries of ‘so much better for the community!’ or ‘so much more money flowing in!’ and ‘all those jobs!’ Well how are you pro-Hollywood folks going to like the empty shell of Olde Town we’re heading toward if the City Council doesn’t start doing something and soon?”

“Just looked at the RCSO crime map and see that it’s covered up with B&Es all over the county. I’d really like to know, in the last fiscal year, how many of these B&Es were solved? I don’t see a lot of burglar arrests in the police log. How many have we caught and do they get long sentences or are they back out doing it again? I see people getting arrested for businesses all the time, that makes the headlines. But what about us homeowners?”

“It is too bad the House of Fine Foods closed. It served a valuable niche in the central/north Rockdale area with its Southern food fare as well as the Greek dishes. It was reasonably priced and served as fast as ‘fast food.’ However the best part was the family atmosphere on the part of the staff and patrons where so many familiar faces could be seen week in and week out and people would linger and talk and just be good neighbors. Personally I prefer ‘mom and pop’ operations to the chain restaurants. It sure would be nice for another industrious, hard-working person to reopen another restaurant there along the same lines. I think North Rockdale would support it.”

“I am telling you from experience with my son. Do not — and I mean do not — put your child in the GPC dual enrollment program. It ruined his Hope GPA. I also find it very interesting when I called to complain that two of the four college employees in this program are leaving in June. Sounds like a big mess. You may think you are saving money, but we are going to pay a lot of money because of this mess.”
