“I just read where a large group of individuals attacked one person at Pine Log Park. Looks like the thug mentality has struck north Rockdale. Used to be two people would fight and go on. Now it takes 20 to rob one person. Real brave people. Looks like the crap and chickens have moved into Rockdale. Scratch Pine Log from a good family place to go.”

“Phoenix Pass does not need to expand. We have plenty of low-income people here already and single mamas. We don’t need more. How about put up some homeless apartments in Alpharetta or Johns Creek or Norcross, where a lot of businesses and jobs are? How about put them somewhere on the MARTA line? Why are you bringing homeless and jobless and careless people to a county with no public transportation, and few if any (most of them low-wage) jobs? Are we the dumping ground for ‘Greater Atlanta?’”

“I don’t know why those people are going through the hassle of getting zoning approval for their bed and breakfast. Call it a short-term rental and, according to code enforcement and the commissioners, you can do whatever you want.”

“I saw your article about the RCPS proposed budget last week. Are teachers getting the step increases back or is it just a 3 percent raise? By step increase, I mean the salaries on the state and local teacher salary schedules. Most of the surrounding counties are at full step increases and we are losing teachers to better paying counties.”

“The shooting may not have been gang-related, but there is a real and definite gang presence and problem in the school system. And also, I’m shocked (judging by the comments to the latest poll) that people aren’t overly concerned about a boy bringing a gun into the school and ‘showing it off’ in the boys’ bathroom. Why was he brandishing a weapon? Why did he feel the need to do that? Playing around with guns isn’t ‘youthful hijinks’, it’s deadly serious. Don’t wait until someone you know or love is harmed before you get concerned about it.”

“A recent study by the London School of Economics found that when smart phones were banned by schools, test scores improved by 6.4 percent overall, and by 14 percent among underachieving students. So RCPS, when are we going to ban smart phones in our schools? We have a lot of underachieving students who cannot afford smart phones anyway, so why can’t we raise our test scores by banning smart phones? This study doesn’t even count the benefits in terms of misbehavior in general. It would be a smart and proactive start to turning our schools around!”

“I would really like to know, when students are issued these expensive devices like laptops that we the taxpayers are paying for, what is their responsibility? If they lose it, do they owe us for that money? When it gets broken through carelessness, do their parents pony up for repair cost? Are these devices monitored to make sure that only school work is being done, not momma’s dating websites or daddy checking out Playboy poses? At the end of the year, are all these devices being returned, or are they just allowed to float out there, with no one responsible for them? This is a lot of money, and I’d like to know that this school system is making it clear that we aren’t buying laptops for the whole family or for people to have fun on.”

“So Democrats have just Hillary for president. Boring old white lady from the ’90s. Has a husband who made a big deal about moving his office to Harlem and then did nothing there, didn’t help nobody. And then he moved his office back out, cause he didn’t want to be there no way. And she got all these secret emails and all kinds of money coming from all over the world, but we don’t know who, and all this while she was supposed to be working for the country but she was working for herself and that money. Herman Cain is right, they do think we are stupid.”

“With what’s happening in Pine Log Park, I agree with others that we need less basketball courts. This seems to bring out the congregating that results in criminal activity. Pine Log should be a park, with trees, not a gang hangout. Can’t believe Rockdale has turned into this because it was once a place where people felt safe. Now you have to watch your back and everything else to keep from getting attacked or robbed.”

——

“I just saw a news report about waiters scanning credit cards for identity theft purposes and I just wanted to put restaurants and servers in Conyers on notice. Police yourselves when it comes to this. I can grill my own steak and won’t think twice about it. I will drop you like a hot potato and never come there again and I will stop eating out. You have been warned.”

“Thank you Rockdale for putting in that splash pad in Milstead. I was worried when the pool left of how the children of the area would enjoy their summer. It was fun to see the community laughing and dancing in the water. Thank you for bringing joy back to the neighborhood!”

“Anyone who dares to offer criticism of the presence of ‘Hollywood’ in Olde Town should be prepared to be shouted down and treated like a pariah.”
