This week’s Rockdale Poll question: Rockdale County commissioners are working to finalize a fiscal year 2016 budget. What recommendations would you make to commissioners for the new budget year? Respond at 770-483-7108, ext. 402; email at email@example.com, online at www.rockdalecitizen.com; or in writing at: Rockdale Citizen Poll, 969 S. Main St., Conyers, GA 30012.
“As a taxpayer whose money contributes to the county coffers I’d like to see a clear Return on Investment figure with justification on any unbudgeted spending. I’d like to see a balanced budget with money put into reserve, without touching or reducing HOST again. Focus on pressing issues, i.e. public safety and crime prevention. Enough with the new vehicles! Now one for the BOE head — A 7-year-old vehicle with 128,000 miles should not be in the condition it is described as being in, damaged dashboard, cracked and leaking heads and gaskets. Somewhere there has to be accountability for the care taken with taxpayer dollars. Why does a vehicle I assume driven predominately within Rockdale County average over 18,000 miles per year and end up in that condition? Taxpayers should not be footing the bill for ‘executive salaries’ plus a free vehicle for unlimited personal use. What is the cost of liability auto insurance on a vehicle that is driven only for business purposes vs. personal and business use? This county needs greater transparency, restraint, accountability and spending with a focused purpose in its budgeting and spending.”
“I think that y’all ought to put more Sheriff’s Department (deputies) on your budget and put them in the subdivisions and shopping centers here in Rockdale County so we can do something about the young people who are doing bad things here in this county.”
