CONYERS — The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office wants to “Fill the Sheriff’s Bus” with school supplies and is asking local businesses to help by donating items.

Sheriff Eric J. Levett is hosting a back to school event for the citizens of Rockdale County to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. This will be a back to school supply drive and fun day on July 27 at Springfield Baptist Church, called “RCSO Fill the Sheriff’s Bus.”

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for donations from businesses to help fund this back to school event. They believe this will greatly enhance their efforts to improve communication between the residents and law enforcement officers in the area.

The Sheriff’s Office has a list of items needed:

♦ Book bags;

♦ 70-page spiral notebooks;

♦ Composition notebooks;

♦ 2 pocket folders with pockets;

♦ Tissue;

♦ Reams of copy paper; and

♦ Hand sanitizer.

Sheriff’s deputies will pick up donations from business locations. Notify Yolande Lovingood-Moore at 470-503-4342 or 770-278-8020 by Friday, July 12.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Building, 911 Chamber Drive in Conyers (notify staff at the window) or at the Rockdale Southside Precinct, 3552 Ga. Highway 20 in Conyers (ring the button for service), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Sheriff’s Office will announce contributions throughout the event and social media. Together, the Sheriff’s Office hopes local businesses and residents can help make this event a success and strengthen relationships with local law enforcement and make Rockdale County a safer and closer-knit community.
