Newton Board discuss preliminary site plans for Eastside

The current Eastside High School will be replaced with a new facility off Ga. Highway 142.

COVINGTON— McLeRoy Inc. of Zebulon was unanimously selected as the site contractor for Eastside High School during the Newton County Board of Education's Tuesday work session.

McLeRoy Inc. has been hired to clear trees and debris, complete grading for the future school facilities and install a stormwater drainage system.

The value of the contract is $5,387,284.

Six vendors participated in the solicitation process but only one other company, Lewis Contracting Services of Atlanta, made a bid asking $387,716 more.

Earlier this year, the BOE approved the purchase of 107 acres of property in eastern Newton County to replace the current Eastside with a new facility located within the existing boundary lines.

Cunningham, Forehand Matthews & Moore Architects Inc., were previously approved for campus design and construction.

The property is located on Ga. Highway 142 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 278.

According to a previous NCSS news release, the new campus is scheduled to open in 2021.
