COVINGTON — The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the wounding of a woman by gunfire in the evening hours of June 29.
Deputies responded to a home on Meeler Drive about 5 p.m. in reference to a family fight. While in route, dispatch advised that the came in from a juvenile who had run across the street from the home to call 911. She said her father and step-mother had been arguing and that her father shot at her step-mother’s car as she was leaving the neighborhood.
When the deputies arrived, the father was taken into custody. There were several children at home at the time of the incident, but all were unharmed.
The victim drove herself to Piedmont Rockdale Hospital for treatment of her wound, which was non-life-threatening.
The suspect was identified as Junia Etienne Augustin, 40, of Covington. He is facing charges of simple battery (family violence) aggravated assault, reckless conduct, felony terroristic threats and acts, obstructing or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and cruelty to children in the first degree.
