James Gardner
James Arthur Gardner, 77, succumbed to cancer surrounded by his family on April 28, 2019.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Joelda Williams Gardner.
He is survived by his two sons, James Michael Gardner and Jeffrey Wayne Gardner; daughters-in-law, Donna Deyton Gardner and Tessa Bernadette Gardner; grandchildren, Ethan Reid Gardner, Erin Reese Gardner and Levi Avery Gardner; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
James was a loving father, husband, papa and good friend to many.
James loved sports, especially playing golf with his friends and grandchildren. He loved to watch college basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. His work career began as a lineman for Carolina Telephone and ended as assistant vice president of Sprint International. After retirement James went to "work" on the golf course just about every day he could until his diagnosis in January 2019. He was always there for his family and friends. He was also very active helping others through a local food bank, Rockdale Emergency Relief, as well as action ministries through his church.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Salem United Methodist Church, 3962 Salem Road, Covington, Georgia. A graveside interment service will follow the memorial service. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. May 11 at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Action Ministries via Salem United Methodist Church Covington, Georgia.
