Wanda Lilaclare Shultz (Hammond)
SHULTZ - Wanda Lilaclare Hammond Shultz, Age 95 of Conyers, GA, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Hoffman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 PM - 4 PM prior to the service. Wanda was born April 10, 1924 in Cumberland, Maryland, to Earl and Mildred (Brandt) Hammond. She graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1941 and married Edward Franklin Shultz on October 20, 1945. Early in their marriage she worked while Eddie earned his college degree. She then dedicated herself to home and family, raising their five children. During this time Eddie's job moved them multiple times: in 1961 from Cumberland to Salt Lake City, Utah; in 1969 to Newark, New Jersey; in 1970 to Newark, Delaware; in 1977 to Kingston, New York; and finally in 1982 to Conyers, Georgia, where he soon retired. In retirement Eddie and Wanda traveled more than they were home. They crisscrossed the U.S. many times, and after acquiring a motorhome in late 1990s, drove to Alaska twice. They traveled extensively in Europe, always renting a car and exploring on their own. This led to many unexpected adventures, like having to sleep in deserted army barracks in Poland when no other accommodations could be found, or having their car stolen in Barcelona. Wanda was always an avid reader and she passed on this love of books to her children. She also passed on a love of animals, especially cats, of which there was always at least one in their home. A devoted mother and grandmother, her children and grandchildren always knew without question that they were cherished and loved. She was always there to comfort and support in times of need, or to make you laugh with her quick wit. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Shultz was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hammond, and her granddaughter, Christine Poole. She is survived by her Brother: Harold & Jody Hammond of Cumberland, MD; her Husband of 73 years: Edward Shultz; children: Ted & Jeanie Shultz of McDonough, GA; Tim & Xiao Shultz of Gaithersburg, MD; Lisa Norris & David Hawks of Smyrna, GA; Lara & JR Hayes of Buford, GA; Julie & Fletcher Poole of Conyers, GA; Grandchildren: Kelly Shultz, Sonya Shultz, Lydia Smith, Bonnie Feldman, Ian Norris, Lyla Avera, Bob Poole; Great Grandchildren: Lillian Feldman, June Feldman, Cecilia Smith; Special Family Friends & Caregivers: Betty DeRamus, Peggy Hampton, Mary Ann Policastro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Atlanta Humane Society www.atlantahumane.org or the Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
