As summer winds down and families are preparing for their students to return to school, I am reminded of the difficulties that many face with back-to-school expenses. This topic is near and dear to my heart as I was once a single-parent, of three small children, and I had absolute dread of “back to school” shopping for several years. Many families are facing that same dread today. Paper, pencils, and rulers sound inexpensive but the reality is that a few bucks here and there add up.

Haven Fellowship is hosting a Back to School bash on July 21 at 5:30 to provide an afternoon of fun, food, fellowship, and school supplies. I ask my fellow citizens to step up and be the difference in the lives of students within our community.

Imagine if we all just bought one or two extra things, how many students we could help?

Most of our local schools provide school supply lists on their websites and every school can be found at Local retailers often have lists available in stores. Pick a list, pick a few items, and let’s be the difference for these students!

For more information, I can be reached at mhowington@windstream. Supplies can be dropped off at Haven Fellowship. Remember the words of Christ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.’” Mathew 25:40.
