Butts County officials have planned a brief ceremony for 2 p.m. Aug. 7 to adjourn court for the final time in the courthouse, which was built in 1898.

Rockdale County Commission Chair Oz Nesbitt Sr. had no questions on two proposed options for a new courthouse when he met with bond referendum committee members at the committee’s final meeting on Feb. 25.


At the last two Bond Referendum Committee town hall meetings, co-chairs Bill Campbell and Thomas Dean made it clear that surveys and other evidence did not lead to a clear recommendation and will instead show all supporting data to the Board of Commissioners next Tuesday in regards to the Rockdale County Courthouse project.


After attending a pair of town hall meetings last week to hear the two options for a possible new county courthouse, citizens have signaled through surveys that they prefer the lower cost of Option 1.
