An alert undercover deputy with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office is being credited with aiding a woman allegedly being beaten by a male companion while they were driving.

The Conyers Police Department was one of 27 law enforcement agencies taking part in a proactive undercover investigation leading up to the Super Bowl that resulted in the arrest of 21 people on charges ranging from child pornography to trafficking of children.

As a result of a proactive undercover investigation coordinated by the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force (which includes the Conyers Police Department), the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CEACC), and the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, 20 people were arrested over a four-day period beginning Nov. 1.

A woman who used a taxi to transport her to a motel where she allegedly had sex for money, then allegedly threatened the taxi driver with a gun if she didn’t take her to buy drugs, is now facing charges.
