Heritage’s Nick Watson-Garcia is the Citizen’s All-Around Player of the year for 2019.

Offensive Player of the Year: SS Ryan Spikes, Soph., Alcovy

Alcovy sophomore Ryan Spikes batted his away to an area-best .486 average at the plate en route to being named the CItizen’s 2019 Offensive Player of the Year. The Tennessee commit led the Tigers in every major offensive category in 2019 including hits (35), RBI (20), runs (31), doubles (8) and home runs (7). Spikes led the area in slugging percentage (.944) and OPS (1.550).

Pitcher of the Year: RHP Griffin Holcombe, Sr., Heritage

Heritage senior right-hander Griffin Holcombe was nearly perfect in 2019 for the Patriots after finishing the season with an 11-1 record on the mound. The Coastal Carolina signee boasted a 1.51 ERA, tops in the area (min. 25 innings pitched), and struck out an area-best 96 batters in 86 2/3 innings. Holcombe was named first team All-State for Class AAAAAA.

All-Around Player of the Year: RHP, 2B Nick Watson-Garcia, Sr., Heritage

Heritage senior Nick Watson-Garcia’s arm and bat were a deadly combination in 2019. The Columbus State signee pitched his way to a 6-3 record to pair with a 2.27 ERA and 81 strikeouts, second most in the area to teammate Griffin Holcombe. At the plate, Watson-Garcia batted .309 and led the Patriots in RBIs with 34. He also recorded 35 hits to pair with 10 doubles and two home runs to finish as the Class 6A Player of the Year.

Coach of the Year: Shane Ramsey, Heritage

In the midst of winning his 100th career game as a head coach, Heritage’s Shane Ramsey helped guide the Patriots to the program’s first state championship in its 43-year history. The Patriots’ 31 wins marked their most in a decade, 14 of which came in Region 3 play to claim the title for the second straight season. Ramsey was named Class 6A’s Coach of the Year.
