After coming off a game where the Patriots lost 42-39, despite gaining 674 yards, Heritage knows what they have to in order to turn everything around.
In the loss, Heritage quarterback Caleb Pruitt threw the ball 53 times completing it 31 times for three touchdowns and 529 yards. Devron Harper caught the ball 13 times for 220 yards with Jordan Young getting six balls for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
“We have to get back on the field. One thing we did a great job of this week was getting back to the basics. Getting back to the basics is meant for our guys to understand that all we have to do is play responsibility football and try to be superman and make every play.”
The Patriots have to do a better job on special teams. Against Grovetown, Heritage had a short punt giving the opponent the ball under 30 yards from the end zone. For Heritage to beat Greenbrier, the special team needs to give the defense more room to work with.
“Those kinds of things can’t happen,” Johnson said. “Those are the small things that we have to get back to the basics. When we punt from the end zone the main thing is that we get the ball out and give our defense a little room in order to defend.”
Despite only gaining 207 yards in their loss to Lakeside-Evans, Johnson knows that Greenbrier is a much better and dangerous team. Wolfpack quarterback Hayden Harrison was less than stellar having gone 4-of-19 for 20 yards against Lakeside. But he has proved to be a much better thrower having gone 27-of-40 for 307 yards in his previous five outings.
Greenbrier running back Jonquavous Brown may not have turned any heads running the ball 22 times for 113 yards against Lakeside. But his previous five game shows what he can do as he ran the ball 110 times for 88 times for 757 yards and 17 touchdowns.
“They’re one of those teams that are going to come out and be desperate. So we have to be ready for everything. We have to be ready for them throwing out their game plan and coming out trying to trick us the whole night,” said Johnson.
“They have a quarterback and a running back that’s really nice. They’ve had some games where they may not have played some games well collectively and the way we’ve been playing I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t say the same thing about us.
