Georgia sophomore linebacker Brenton Cox, a five-star recruit in the 2018 class, entered the transfer portal Monday after reportedly being dismissed from the team.
Cox was dismissed Sunday, according to UGASports.com.
Defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was asked at a press conference Monday morning about how Cox might contribute this season and deferred to head coach Kirby Smart: "That's a good question. I would actually leave that up to Coach Smart at this time."
Cox, who was rated the No. 23 overall prospect in the 2018 class in the 247Sports composite rankings, played in 13 games for Georgia last season. He started once, that coming in the Sugar Bowl against Texas, when he made a season-high six tackles in a loss.
For the season, he made 20 tackles, including two for loss and a sack, also breaking up three passes.
He was arrested in April for a misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
A Georgia native, Cox initially pledged to Ohio State before decommitting just nine days before early National Signing Day in December 2017.
